Kinesiology and Health- an important connection

Dr. Loy.  When I say that name I think of success, mentor, exercise as medicine, wellness, support, friendship, colleague, guide, fun, exercise physiology and the list goes on....  Dr. Loy was both Jay and my advisor while we were at California State University, Northridge.  He (and a few others like Drs. Holland and Vincent) were and still are pivotal in my career.  Jay would easily say the same about his career.  Now Dr. Loy is asking some of us to help him out - something I am happy to do.  In reality, Dr. Loy is not asking us to help him- he is asking us to help the nation- as he and his students have developed an amazing opportunity that utilizes collaboration between a University and a community to that could be taken anywhere.  These types of collaboration are win-win (I hear you saying it, Dr. Loy) relationships.  The students running the program gain valuable, experiential learning and the community has access to participate in a wellness program and take steps towards a healthy lifestyle.  Many community programs focus on the kids- I like that the 100 citizen program is focused on the family.  Taking what you learn and role modeling good behavior for the family. An awesome message.

Dr. Loy and his students have submitted their exemplary video for a competition which requires support by vote. If they win...if the video gets enough votes, it will be viewed by the White House- think of the impact we could make with that kind of support. Kinesiology can make a difference in public health.  So take a moment and vote (each day) and be proud that you have helped a few others to have a healthy lifestyle.

To Dr. Loy.... I embrace your enthusiasm and am proud to support you and your students efforts.

I must say I am very impressed with many of the efforts that are demonstrated by the overall  community challenge program. I encourage you to view many of the videos as they are truly inspiring. This is a great project to raise awareness of the types of community projects that can make a difference in health and wellness.
